The 22nd Chaos Communication Congress (22C3) is a four-day conference on technology, society and utopia. The Congress offers lectures and workshops on a multitude of topics including (but not limited to) information technology, IT-security, internet, cryptography and generally a critical-creative attitude towards technology and the discussion about the effects of technological advances on society.
The congress (sub-titled "Private Investigations") will be held from December 27th to 30th, 2005, in Berlin, Germany.
Some noteworthy bits and pieces:
This is gonna be one of the highlights of this year, I'm really looking forward to the congress.
They need ca. $200,000 for this quarter alone! Yes, that was a bit shocking for me, too... As of today they already raised $98,000 so they still need ca. $102,000 until 2005-09-08 (the "fund drive" is is being held from 2005-08-19 to 2005-09-08).
If you have some spare money, go donate it, help to keep the knowledge of this world free!
This means you can easily link to any Unmaintained Free Software article/project from any MediaWiki-powered site (e.g. Wikipedia). For example,
[[UFS:Gtkgo]] will create a link to the Gtkgo project page.
Pretty cool, methinks.
Finally! My Unmaintained Free Software wiki is back online...
After several weeks of downtime, I was finally able to recover, reinstall, apply backups etc. I won't bother going through all the gory details, I already blogged a bit about the complete, utter mess that kept the site down. Believe me, you don't want to know.
The good news is that the site is back, no data has been lost, all user accounts are still there and should work.
Now, go and adopt one of those orphaned projects!
The new release fixes a few bugs, but more importantly it fixes a security issue. All users are advised to upgrade.
